Announcing Our Research Study Advisory Council

AAC was selected to participate in The Wallace Foundation’s Field Studies program, a research component of Wallace’s ongoing arts initiative focused on arts organizations founded by, with, and for communities of color. The grantees will lead research projects intended to bring definition, depth, breadth, and perspective about the nature of the ecosystem of non-profit arts organizations of color and the communities they serve.

We want to share a special thank you to the advisory council composed of arts leaders, administrators and scholars who provided essential insights and expertise as we develop the first-ever “by us, for us, about us” legislative advocacy platform and priorities.

Advisory Council Members (pictured from left to right): Dr. Jessica Doe (Artist), Dr. Durell Cooper (Consultant), Dr. Zuly Inirio (Multi-Hyphenate), Jade Elyssa Cariaga (Principal Consultant), Deonté Griffin-Quick (Artist + Arts Administrator), Sarika Sanyal (Arts + Culture Advocate & Senior Director at CCS Fundraising), Evan Linett (Arts Researcher & Musician), Taylor Masamitsu (Multi-Hyphenate Education Researcher), Dana James (Multi-Hyphenate), Natasha Mijares (Artist, Writer), Liyen Chong (Multi-Hyphenate Artist and Community Organizer), Sanjay Saverimuttu (Artist and Educator)

AAC has launched the first of two studies to help create our community's advocacy and policy agenda, but we can't do it without YOU!

Take our quick (less than ten minutes!), anonymous survey by January 30th, and make your voice heard.

Why It Matters

Traditional research focuses on artists, leaving a gap in understanding arts administrators. This study breaks new ground by centering us - artists and arts administrators of the global majority! Your input directly informs a groundbreaking study, shaping a national arts advocacy agenda that reflects the needs of our own communities. You can help fill this critical research gap!

What We’ll Do Next

We plan to publish our results in the International Journal of Cultural Policy, host webinars to share our findings directly with our community, and collaborate to share this research widely with our whole field.

Be a Part of Change

Previous research by Dr. Cuyler and AAC on BIPOC arts administrators and artists during the COVID-19 pandemic was published in the Journal of Arts Management, Law, and Society. With your help, we aim to gather 1,000 responses for this groundbreaking study to build on what we already know about our community's priorities and to inform AAC’s work to develop a For Us By Us Policy agenda.

Let's shape a more inclusive and informed future for arts advocacy together!
